Typography is an element of designing. an integral part of designing happens to be communication and most of the communication that happens on the web and social circle is in written form, thus the reason behind typography being such a salient segment in designing.

· RULES AND PRINCIPLES OF TYPOGRAPHY.

i. Understand the difference between Typeface and Font :

The terminologies typeface and fonts are used interchangeably these days but one should know that they have a vast difference. Typeface are a particular set of glyphs or sorts e.g., Helvetica, Arial. Fonts are the different styles and designs and each one is different from the other e.g., 12 point Helvetica, 10 point Helvetica.

ii. Typeface should compliment the UX :

While designing and choosing the typeface one must discern the product background or just have an understanding of the background of what has to be depicted and use a typeface which would enhance the same.

iii. Focus on grammar :

The grammar and vocabulary one uses in the text should always be correct and appropriate and this should always be under check by the person responsible. A single wrong text compromises the entire meaning of the text.

iv. Build on hierarchy :

Using the hierarchy element becomes essential in order to get the structured view of the entire text. Laying out a planned hierarchy of the texts and building on it as per the specification needs to be done. The scan ability and readability of the text improves with hierarchy set up as the person viewing it gets drawn towards the bigger bolder texts which are more vital.

v. Consider localizability :

When building a product for a segregated market it must be taken under consideration that it might get translated into numerous languages and when that happens the text should be extracted to have the same meaning and effect, the signs and symbols must be retained. Also, when targeting an audience, there must be content that appeals to that specific mind space.

vi. Readability and Legibility :

Legibility is the measure of how fact a person can distinguish between different characters. Readability is the property of how accessible and fast is it to read a text or block of words. Including is features is a fundamental job as without it the text would lose all the audience.
